How Tos for creating a linked blog

Saved 2026-11-03

Agent friendly guide on creating a linked blog. The idea is from Simon Willison.
Help me build my own WhatsApp-powered archive and link blog I am not technical. Work with me step by step to build and operate this. Explain unfamiliar terms in plain English, ask only the questions needed for the next step, and do the implementation yourself wherever your tools allow. Example of the experience I want: https://priyaranjanmarathe.github.io/finds/ Use this website as a reference for the user experience only. Build an independent implementation for my accounts. Do not inspect, copy, or depend on its owner’s source repository, code, credentials, or infrastructure. What I want I receive useful links, messages, photos, videos, audio, and documents on WhatsApp. I want to forward selected items to a dedicated WhatsApp number, then choose which ones to publish to my own searchable GitHub Pages website. This should process only what I deliberately send to that number. It should not require access to my existing chats, contacts, or groups. My everyday workflow 1. I forward an item to the dedicated number. 2. I reply directly to that item with a command such as: save #books #science Title: An interesting discovery Note: My commentary on why this is worth keeping. 3. The selected item appears on my website after processing. Require a direct reply so the system knows exactly which item I selected. Never guess the target from nearby messages. Forwarding something alone must not publish it. Let me revise titles, notes, and tags, and remove published items. Explain the supported commands and any time limits. If an old post can no longer be edited through WhatsApp, provide a simple alternative. Website requirements * Newest posts first, with a permanent link to each post. * Titles, original text or links, my commentary, dates, and clickable tags. * Full-text search and tag filtering. * Images and appropriate audio/video players or document links. * A mobile-friendly layout with readable Marathi, Hindi, and English. * Clear handling of unsupported or oversized attachments. * Exportable records so I can move my archive later. Privacy and publication Explain the difference between a private archive and a public website before setup. Ask me to confirm which content I want public. Do not describe a public GitHub Pages site as private storage. Keep unselected messages, sender numbers, credentials, and internal inbox data out of the public repository and website. Warn me that selected messages and attachments may themselves contain personal information. Explain what removing a post does—and what may remain in Git history, attachment storage, caches, or downloaded copies. How to work with me Start by asking: * What computer do I use, and what agent tools are available? * Do I already have GitHub and Meta accounts? * Do I have a suitable WhatsApp number for this setup? * What should the website be called? * What monthly budget am I comfortable with? Recommend the simplest maintainable architecture. GitHub Pages should host the website; use suitable services for receiving WhatsApp messages, keeping the inbox private, and storing public attachments. Explain the role of Meta’s WhatsApp Cloud API and whether Vercel, Cloudflare, or another service is needed. Check current official documentation before giving account instructions, pricing, or platform restrictions. Explain test-number limitations, production requirements, token expiry or revocation, storage and bandwidth limits, and possible charges. Do not assume everything is free or that paid AI subscriptions are required. Give me one manageable setup step at a time. When I must sign in, verify a number, approve access, or configure a secret, tell me exactly what to do. Never ask me to paste passwords or access tokens into chat. Store credentials using the appropriate platform’s secret settings. Security and reliability Verify incoming webhook signatures and accept messages only from my authorized sender number. Protect the private inbox, prevent duplicate posts on retries, retry failed imports, and avoid logging private content or credentials. Set a clear retention period for unselected messages. Make publication failures visible to me without exposing private data. Explain the expected publishing delay. Scheduled processing is acceptable; include a manual way to run it. Completion and handoff Implement the complete flow and test it with my permission using deliberately chosen sample content: * A text/link post. * An image post. * An update to a published post. * Removal of a test post. * An unselected message that must remain unpublished. * A repeated delivery that must not create a duplicate. Show me the actual published results and report anything that remains untested. Finish with short instructions covering how to save, edit, remove, search, export, and troubleshoot. Record which accounts and services I own, where settings are managed, and what maintenance may be needed—without including secret values. Begin by checking my starting setup and guiding me through the first step.

The Ambarish Mishra Talks

Saved 2026-10-11

September 2026 was well spent listening to Ambarish Misra Ji. What a prolific writer and orator. His Urdu and Marathi are simply amazing. I loved his thoughts on Gandhiji the most. These are collections of his talks, I found on YouTube.
The Ambarish Mishra Talks I had heard about Ambarish Mishra from editor friend back in 2008. I had always wanted to read his books but never got the chance to do so. I recently read an article on “strategies for learning” Andy Masley wrote, and was inspired by the way Andy suggests us to make best use of chunks of time. I think commute, gym and doing dishes time is worth spending listening to great thinkers like Ambarish. I intend to see if I can spend at least 40 hours with Ambarish. Hopefully YouTube has that amount of content. 1. Ambarish at the Loksatta Lit Festival 2025. Both of his talks were great. In the first he talked about Sahir Ludhnaiwi and Suresh Bhat. And spoke about Urdu in the second. He presented both with audio visuals, and gave a nice walk down the memory lane of the melodies. https://youtu.be/wq5pC7QYoAM?is=8tjK1-8ZlR7wE0Zy https://youtu.be/ClzlGAbC8zk?is=uQdYePyM8Ktql9Ro 2. On Gandhiji

Saved 2026-10-06

Gandhiji doesn’t need anyone to defend him, nor does Sane Guruji. Both stood tall and gave their life for Bharat. One literally feels pain when both are unjustly rediculed. No reading would assuage those who mock these stalwarts of Indian social thought and all one can do is to remember Gandhiji on his birthday and spend good 15 minutes writing what one feels about them down. And then double down with photo of an elocution competition I won speaking about “Relevance of Gandhian thoughts”, back in 1999. He Ram 🙏

Dr. Uday Khire’s interview in BMM Vrutta — a few interesting points/TILs:

Saved 2026-10-04

Dr. Uday Khire’s interview in BMM Vrutta — a few interesting points/TILs: 1. Original interview: Dr. Gautam Pangu and Komal Kulkarni interviewed Dr. Uday Khire in the October 2026 BMM Vrutta, pp. 4–7. Khire received BMM’s 2026 Science, Technology, Education & Research Award. BMMNewsletterOct2026docx BMM Vrutta — October 2026: https://bmmonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/BMMNewsletterOct2026docx.pdf 2. Pune → Nobel laureate’s lab → UC Irvine: Khire completed his PhD at CSIR-NCL, Pune. He came to the US in 1991 and did postdoctoral research at Purdue with Herbert C. Brown, winner of the 1979 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, followed by a second postdoc with Scott Rychnovsky at UC Irvine. Khire says these experiences gave him a deep grounding in complex synthetic chemistry. BMMNewsletterOct2026docx 3. What is a kinase inhibitor? And the Nexavar connection: Kinases are enzymes involved in cellular signaling—for example, telling cells when to grow or divide. In some cancers, these signaling pathways become abnormally activated. Kinase inhibitors are targeted drugs designed to interfere with these signals. Khire spent about 11 years at Bayer working in cancer drug discovery, including on a B-Raf kinase inhibitor that progressed from preclinical development to clinical trials and eventually became an approved drug. BMMNewsletterOct2026docx Patent records connect Khire’s Bayer work to sorafenib (Nexavar); he is a named inventor on relevant Bayer RAF-kinase patents. 4. An interesting, though indirect, connection to Katalin Karikó: Karikó’s breakthrough involved making therapeutic mRNA work effectively in cells, while Khire’s work has largely involved small-molecule medicinal chemistry and kinase inhibitors. These are different technologies, so there isn’t a direct research connection. But there is a broader conceptual connection: both involve understanding molecular machinery inside cells well enough to intervene selectively and turn that knowledge into medicines. 5. What comes next is perhaps even more interesting: Khire’s Pune lab is now researching proximity-induced protein degradation. Instead of merely blocking a disease-causing protein, the idea is to harness the cell’s own machinery to degrade and remove the protein itself. Khire also makes an interesting observation about India: Pune/NCL provides excellent scientific talent, but funding innovative drug discovery remains challenging because India’s VC ecosystem is still developing. Note on state of libraries in Indian

Saved 2026-10-02

Chinmay Damle wrote a beautiful note on state of libraries in India. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1cwZvwBWuo/?mibextid=wwXIfr Libraries are an important institution, so are librarians. They are a different breed as well, and it’s important to have quite a few for great health of the liberal society. I remember being disturbed to know about a board member who tried to ban books being elected to the library board in Douglas county last year. https://www.reddit.com/r/Denver/s/wCGJu8CWVX
Open Letter: A Halt to New Delhi’s Demolitions

What after Sudhir Phadke Babuji’s Geet Ramayan? Geetramayan Sung by Sudhir Phadke Babuji - https://youtu.be/yBo1d11q8Bc?is=bHTWMma8M6wXjHBh Babuji and Ga Di Madgulkar have done magic with Geetramayan. Bach wrote 200 Cantatas and many conductors have conducted them. They are available as box sets and is part of the essential Western Classical Music cannon. I came to know about it in Jared Diamond’s interview at Conversations with Tyler. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/conversations-with-tyler/id983795625?i=1000788666602 Jared is looking to listen to all 200 Cantatas in his 80s. He relaxes and retires to them at the end of the day and aims to do 1 CD every week. I find it an awesome way to wind down and relax. Taking this idea from Jared Ji I started listening to Geet Ramayana. Also worked with Codex to create a picture book on Geet Ramayana. It’s awesome. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N9aADj-t7JkuhXlDiNWrfeMWVg78tW5g/view?usp=drivesdk My question is what’s a sizable project in Indian traditions? I want it to be authoritative, lyrical and musical. Please let me know. Complete Tulsi Ramayana sung by Mukesh - https://youtu.be/fcjkCZWUemI?is=YBKbDfVrA97y9-QQ

NFL and Multimodal
“What Hufanga did was extraordinary”. Last Sunday Huganga did something which is rarely seen in NFL. Talanoa Hufanga became the first NFL player since at least 1982 to record a sack, two interceptions, and a 50+ yard pick-six in a single quarter, cementing a thrilling 30-26 comeback victory against the Rams. This video shows the highlight https://youtu.be/PYSpaKbQeXo?is=dAZQhp3O7iJW4bWA. Broncos are best viewed in highlights, one never knows what they are going to get. I remember Jeff Dean saying that AI would be able to do such expert analysis just from the video footage, and Google would lead it because of their multimodal approach. Google claims they have done it, and it would be interesting if it’s applied to varied domains like Indian Classicla Music. Good times! #NFL2026 #Broncos https://share.google/aimode/FBYWpjYRfnKkeVtg1 #LongGoogle

१. The article about the bicycle tour of Jai Rawat and his buddies: https://indiawest.com/three-cyclists-complete-3168-mile-ride-from-la-to-dc-in-52-days/ Three Cyclists Complete 3,168-Mile Ride From LA To DC In 52 Days Three Cyclists Complete 3,168-Mile Ride From LA To DC In 52 Days September 24, 2026 India-West News Desk WASHINGTON, DC – Three Indian cyclists, Jai Rawat, 57, Anuradha Palnitkar, 54, and Samir Palnitkar, 58, have completed a 3,168-mile ride across the United States in 52 days without a support vehicle. The trio set out from Santa Monica Beach in Los Angeles on August 1 and reached the Washington Monument in Washington, DC, on September 21. They averaged about 65 miles a day, crossing 14 states and tackling more than 100,000 feet of climbing. Part of the journey followed historic Route 66 before the cyclists continued east toward Washington. The ride brought extreme heat, thunderstorms and cold weather, along with stretches of highway without shoulders and heavy truck traffic. The cyclists also had to repair their bicycles, deal with dogs chasing them and recover from cycling accidents along the way. They crossed the Continental Divide in New Mexico at 7,881 feet and the Eastern Continental Divide in Pennsylvania at 2,392 feet. Palnitkar became the first Indian woman to complete an unsupported, unpowered bicycle ride across the United States, according to the organizers. Rawat and Samir Palnitkar also became the first Indian Institute of Technology graduates to complete an unsupported, unpowered bicycle ride across the country. The cyclists said the journey gave them a chance to experience small-town America and learn more about its history and communities. “We experienced small-town hospitality as people chatted with us, offered free coffee as they learned about our cross-country ride,” Rawat said. He also recalled motorists waiting patiently behind the bicycles and shop owners sharing stories about local historical artifacts. Rawat and Samir Palnitkar are graduates of IIT Kanpur and have been friends for 40 years. Palnitkar is a dietitian who now teaches at a special needs school. This was her first long cycle ride. The three have trekked together in Nepal, India, Patagonia, Ecuador, France, Italy, Switzerland and Africa. Before this expedition, Rawat and Samir Palnitkar completed an 800-km bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 2018.US Business News

Tukaram Mundhe and food safety

Saved 2026-09-25

Thanks to Tukaram Mundhe. One is reminded of the importance of the FDA. Google ai found some interesting facts about the same. Yes, people frequently died from eating sandwiches—and the components that went into them—before the FDA and other food regulations were established. [1, 2] In the 19th and early 20th centuries, before the landmark Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 created federal oversight, the American food supply was virtually lawless. While the term "sandwich" became popular in the late 1800s as a quick lunch for the working class, sitting down to eat one meant risking exposure to lethal bacteria, rotting meat, and toxic industrial chemicals. [2, 3, 4] Here is how a routine sandwich could have killed someone before regulations: ## 💀 The Bread: Toxic Fillers and Fungal Poisoning To maximize profits, bakeries frequently stretched flour with cheaper, dangerous additives. [2, 5] * Chemical Adulterants: It was common to find bread whitened with alum (aluminum sulfate) or chalk, and bulked up with plaster of Paris, clay, or even sawdust. * Ergot Poisoning: Unregulated grain harvesting meant that rye and wheat were frequently contaminated with Claviceps purpurea, a toxic fungus. Eating bread made from this grain caused ergotism (St. Anthony’s Fire), which led to gangrene, severe hallucinations, convulsions, and death. ## 🥩 The Meat: "Tubercular Beef" and Formaldehyde Before federal meat inspections, there were no laws preventing companies from processing diseased animals. [2, 6] * The Preservatives: Because commercial refrigeration did not exist, meat packers kept decomposing flesh looking "fresh" by treating it with borax, lethal doses of sodium sulfite, and formaldehyde (embalming fluid) to mask the stench of rot. [2, 3, 5] * Diseased Livestock: As Upton Sinclair famously exposed in his 1906 novel The Jungle, scrap meat poured into sausages routinely included rats, poisoned rat bait, and meat from animals that died of tuberculosis or cholera. ## 🧀 The Cheese and Condiments: "Swill Milk" and Lead If someone preferred a cheese or egg sandwich, the danger was just as high. [2] * Swill Dairy Products: In urban areas, dairy cows were kept in filthy, unventilated stables attached to whiskey distilleries and fed boiling alcohol waste ("slop"). This produced a thin, bluish, bacteria-ridden liquid known as swill milk. To make it look like thick, rich cream for cheese or butter, manufacturers added chalk, plaster, starch, and pureed calf brains. Swill dairy killed thousands of people—primarily children—every year. [2, 7, 8, 9, 10] * Poisonous Colors: Pickles or mustard added to a sandwich were often brightly colored using industrial dyes containing copper sulfate, lead, and arsenic. [2, 11] ## 🔬 The Turning Point The scale of foodborne fatalities finally led to change through the work of Dr. Harvey Washington Wiley and his famous "Poison Squad" experiments in the early 1900s, where human volunteers ingested these common food additives to document their toxic effects. Their findings horrified the public and directly prompted the creation of the agency that would become the FDA, turning the simple act of eating a sandwich from a gamble with death into a safe, everyday routine. [1, 2, 11] If you are interested, I can share more details about Dr. Wiley's Poison Squad or look into how the introduction of refrigeration changed food safety. What would you like to explore next? Bloom energy - fuel cells

Saved 2026-09-21

Bloom Energy - It’s early fall in 2026 and I still believe that it’s going to be a while till AI eats everything. Humans are going to be in the loop and would be the masters of AIs. Reading, understanding and curating the best stuff is going to be the key. Whatever one has read previously and the judgements he has gained are going to be crucial now. This is the same reason why “Calling Bullshit” is such a crucial skill now. Rather knowing, the Statement of Purpose or why you are here is important too. More and more who you are hanging out with is critical too. It always was but with the amplifications AI is capable of producing, critical thinking skills are key now. AI has changed so much already. Bloom Energy is powering AI technology and is such an interesting company. What would convince you that Bloom has a durable engineering advantage—and what would suggest it is benefiting mainly from a temporary shortage of grid power? That distinction turns an interesting company into an exercise in judgment. - https://www.linkedin.com/company/bloom-energy/ - https://youtu.be/ZSy1N9kgS-k?is=Yz1FmSadJ9McoNNZ - https://youtu.be/wN4Z0iFifxc?is=QWeC-eIkp0XolPT- - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ama-fuel-cells-geopolitics-and-the-solar-growth-curve/id1593204897?i=1000790335266 - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/314-paul-graham-how-to-do-great-work/id1141877104?i=1000622881220 - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/insights-from-historys-greatest-thinkers-david-senra-566/id1347973549?i=1000590460174

Saved 2026-09-20

When you look at the challenges this country faces, hard to escape the conclusion that everyone (else’s kids) should skip college and learn a skilled trade.

Saved 2026-09-20

Note on the whole business of college and kids etc. Joe Weisenthal (@TheStalwart ) has tweeted about this kind of hypocrisy several times. Here are the closest matches:The most direct one is this sarcastic line from June 2024:When you look at the challenges this country faces, hard to escape the conclusion that everyone (else’s kids) should skip college and learn a skilled trade. https://x.com/TheStalwart/status/1797327835494834397Replies immediately treated it as a jab at “not my kid” thinking.Another well-known one (July 2023):In America you can become the CEO of a big company without ever having gone to college or maybe just by getting an accounting degree from a random state school. But if you want to be the #2, you have to have gone to an Ivy. https://x.com/TheStalwart/status/1684543530054610949Related commentary on Silicon Valley’s anti-college rhetoric (June 2025), quoting:“In the era of the internet, if you have to go to college, it is probably because you're mediocre.” https://x.com/TheStalwart/status/1932838101032054883He posted it in response to a Business Insider piece on Gen Z tech founders skipping college. He has also mocked billionaires dunking on student debt while being far removed from that world, and questioned the Ivy obsession more generally, but the three above are the ones that most directly hit the “preach skip college / send your own kids to elite schools” contradiction. https://x.com/NanaFadavnis/status/2101758209233182737?s=20

📖 Alpika - An Ekphrastic Journey "Alpika" is my first e-book of 20 short poems and should take about 15 minutes to read. While the poems are written in Marathi, their English versions can be found below the main poem on each page. The book is now available on Google Books and it's free to download. Please get your copy and let me know which of the Alpikas you like the most! 👉 Download your free copy here: https://play.google.com/books/reader?id=v4TZEQAAQBAJ&pg=GBS.PP1 Happy Reading, Shailesh Deshpande Richmond, Virginia

The Two Popes

Saved 2026-09-20

"The Two Popes" - We watched "The Two Popes" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Two_Popes over the weekend. We have been exploring the way to watch a movie like a TV episode. In bits of 20-30 minutes per day. That gives us the time to talk and discuss the subject matter and doesn't keep us stuck to the sofa for long. I think it also helps to recally the story. What I loved about the movie is the expression on the Pope's face. It shows the power of words, and brilliance of the actors. Also depitcts the maturity of the Western Civilization to allow screening of the movie, without much tamasha. It is definately an indication of a mature tradition of "Wade Wade Jayate Tatwabodha". https://priyaranjanmarathe.substack.com/p/wade-wade-jayate-tatwabodha?
